4 Signs You Need an HVAC Repair Immediately

Few things are as frustrating to a homeowner as having your air conditioner go out in the middle of a hot Hoover, Alabama, summer day. Before the system completely breaks down, however, there are often signs suggesting that it’s time for a tuneup. Here are a few common signs that you should schedule an HVAC repair immediately.

Frost on the Evaporator Coil

When the evaporator coil loses its ability to absorb heat, ice forms. There are many reasons why the coil stops working efficiently, such as a clogged filter, dirt in the coil, and leaky refrigerant. Anytime you notice frost or ice on the evaporator coil, call an HVAC company right away. The system will only lose power until it completely shuts off and destroys the air conditioner.

Strange Noises

HVAC systems make noises when starting up, but if you notice any unusual sounds like hissing or grinding, there’s an issue somewhere in the system. Strange sounds are often the first sign of motor problems or a compressor burning out. Either of these are serious issues that require extensive repair work, but you can avoid excessive costs by having the problem addressed in a timely manner.

Tripped Circuit Breaker

If your air conditioner starts to trip your home’s circuit breaker when the compressor comes on, there could be faulty electrical connections. Not only can electrical issues cause significant damage to your HVAC system, they can also pose a risk to your entire home.

No Airflow

When warm air flows from the vents or none comes out at all, you know there’s a problem with your AC. Blocked ducts are typically the culprit, but there could be a number of underlying issues your HVAC technician must address before you can use your air conditioner again.

Don’t neglect HVAC repair when little issues crop up. If you suspect your HVAC system may be struggling to keep your home cool, call Total Comfort Heating and Air to schedule a service call: (205) 386-2056.
